Miscellaneous Thoughts

Here's what I know about the Washington Nationals.

*They're in the National League, currently in last place in the Eastern Division.
*Delmon Young's brother Dmitri plays on the team.
*Cristian Guzman, formerly of the Twins, now plays for the Nationals.

That is all.  I guess we'll see how the series goes.  I would never say that it'll be an easy series.  Sometimes the Twins have the worst time with teams that are down on their luck.  And actually, I think the Nationals just swept a series before they got here, so they must be feeling pretty good about themselves right now.

Some details I left out about our trip to Milwaukee:  We had some waffle fries at the ballpark.  They were pretty good!  I was going to get a frozen strawberry margarita, but the old purse strings tightened up big time.  $8.50 for a splash of tequila, some ice and a few strawberries?  Um...no.  I never used to be a cheapskate at all, so I don't know what my problem was.  When we were walking around downtown, an old guy walked by and tried to bum a cigarette off us.  Hmm...if I smoked and had a pack on me, I probably would've given him one.  That was kind of weird.  I've never been panhandled for a cigarette before.   Also...we were watching batting practice and someone on the field gave a guy standing next to us a ball, and he in turn gave it to Twins Kid.  That was pretty cool.  They let us wander around at will at Miller Park before the game started, so we walked right up to the section behind home plate.  Nope, I'd never get bored watching the pre-game rituals the players have.  We did go and stand outside the Pfister Hotel, where the Twins stay, hoping to catch one of them leaving the hotel.  We did it kind of half-heartedly.  We didn't want to stand there all day, and we didn't quite have the gumption to go into the hotel.  I didn't want any of the hotel staff to yell at us.  "You ladies wearing the Twins shirt have to leave.  We can't let you bother our guests."  (Just what I imagine they'd say.  They're probably pretty polite at such a fancy joint. )  Finally, click here.  This blog author describes some things I didn't think to, plus there's a picture that shows exactly where we sat on Saturday night.

I think this series would be a great time for Delmon to show us the power we were told he'd have.  It'd be pretty sweet if he could one-up his big brother, wouldn't it?

A little extra from Becca: I've finally posted my Milwaukee pictures. I got annoyed a cople of time during the process but I figured it out! Click here to see them.

Tricia is right about Nationals. They may not win the NL East but they want to win as much as anybody else so play hard this week, guys!

I can't stand the jerseys the Twins are wearing tonight! What's with the sleeves? Whose idea is it to wear  jerseys without sleeves with gray t-shirts? I just think it looks kind of dumb.

Nick Punto is supposed to rejoin the team next Tuesday when the team is in San Diego. I miss him. I was bummed out that he couldn't play in Milwaukee but could deal because Cuddy was there. Then he gets hurt on Friday when he was hit by a pitch!  Darn it. He may not have been there much but that slide into home plate in the top of the 12th was most excellent!

Milwaukee - Part 2

Friday game:  Twins 10, Brewers 2
Saturday game: Twins 9, Brewers 4

Becca and I think that next summer we should go to all the games the Twins play on the road.  They haven't lost a single road game we've been to.  The only problem is, how do we pay the bills and afford hotels and such while we're on the road?  Perhaps the Twins could pay all our expenses for the summer.  I mean, come on, we greatly improve their odds when we go to their road games. Four games is a pretty convincing sample size, right? I think they could afford to pay all our bills if it meant they'd be 81 and 0 on the road.

Ok, we're not seriously that delusional.  It sure is fun to fantasize though.  For a photographic record of our trip, click here.

We took the bus to Miller Park on Friday.  We hopped on the first one that came by, around 5:15, because we wanted to get to the ballpark early.  We had a grand time watching the Twins  practice.  We saw lots of balls go over the fence in batting practice.  We saw Gardy hit grounders to his fielders.  But mostly, we saw a bunch of baseball players standing around BS'ing with each other.  We love baseball so much, and it's impossible for us to get bored at the ballpark, even when it's just a bunch of guys doing a whole lotta nothing.

The game on Friday night was flippin' awesome.  It was one of the best games we've ever seen in person.  We sat behind the third base line on the lower level, so we could see everything.  There were a bunch of obnoxious, slightly drunk Twins fans sitting in our section.  They were funny drunks.  And they were LOUD.  I bet it was audible on TV when they were hollering, "Let's go Slowey!"  Speaking of Slowey, he was amazing on Friday night.  He pitched like an ace AND got some amazing hits.  I thought it was so funny when he hit the 2 RBI single after the Brewers walked Mike Lamb intentionally.  Who would think the pitcher would be a threat at the plate, especially an AL one?  The only thing that would've been better is if he had hit a grand slam.

More to follow...we can't share all the details of the trip in one blog entry.  We want to keep you coming back for more!
