Where are they now?

Hi all...

I saw this link on Aaron Gleeman's website, and I decided to borrow it.  It's a cool story about how Barty is adjusting to playing for the Rays.

Enjoy!

Farewell

We have to say goodbye to Jason Bartlett, aka Barty, today, since he got traded to the Rays in a deal that was finalized last night.  He's a favorite at Twins Sisters, and we'll miss him.

We knew Torii would end up playing for someone else next year.

There were rumors that Matt Garza would be traded to the Rays.

I'll miss him, but I won't be surprised if Johan is playing somewhere else next season too.

But this!  It came totally out of left field.  Holy crap!

We wish Barty well as he plays for the Rays next year.  Actually, we hope he has a phenomenal year playing for them.  We'll miss him a lot.

Woo hoo!

Twins 4  Rangers 2

Greetings and Salutations, Twins fans!

What a fun game to watch last night. Nick played great defense, Torii reached a career high 104 RBIs and Carlos pitched 6 outstanding innings.  I'm so happy to see that while they aren't going to the playoffs, they haven't stopped playing great baseball.

Time to finish getting ready for work.   :-(

Oh, wow.  The intro to the game last night was cheesy.  Dick was  talking about the dashed playoff hopes over "When September Ends," by Green Day.   I'm sure it wasn't meant to be funny, but it kind of was.  Chock full of Velveeta-y goodness.

I think we need to give Barty a shout-out here.  That double play he started in the 6th inning, which got Silva out of a bases-loaded jam, was probably the most beautiful double play I've ever seen.  I didn't think   he'd be able to get to the ball.  Now I truly understand what other bloggers, who are far more stats-oriented than we, mean when they say a fielder has good range.  **Light bulb goes on over head.**

Also, a short editorial:  I know these games are meaningless in the sense that the Twins are not in a playoff race this year.  They're still fun to watch, though.  There are still 11 games left to play.  After these games, we have to wait until April for more regular-season games.  D'oh.   Let's enjoy the last ones for this year.

A Rain Delay, An Injury and a Win

Twins  8  Orioles 1

Waiting out a rain delay makes a game seem longer but in this case it was worth the wait.  I want to start by giving a shout out to Jason Bartlett. He went 4 for 4 with a walk. In addition, he made some great defensive plays behind Matt Garza. Way to go! You have seemed to find your niche batting 2nd in the lineup.

I was having a fine time watching this game while surfing the internet. Then I heard Dick and Bert say, "Mauer's hurt." I gasped as I saw him hobble to third base.  Right now he is diagnosed with left hamstring soreness.  I'm no doctor but I'm assuming that hamstring soreness is less serious than a hamstring pull. What a massive bummer.  I hope that Joey won't have to go on the DL but we'll see.  I don't want him to try coming back too early and make it worse.  Mike Redmond was marvelous when Joey was hurt earlier in the season and will be again.  As long as that big lummox Jim Thome doesn't nail him in the head with his bat again. How does your bat fly out of hands twice in the same at bat anyway?

Matt Garza pitched ok. He pitched himself into same jams like he did with his last start and again with the help of great defense he pitched himself right back out of it. He only gave up one run over 5 innings and the bullpen slammed the door for the rest of the game.

Torii hit a three run blast last night.  I'm very happy to see Torii hitting so well.  My favorite catch of the night was the one JT made in left field. I thought for sure it was going to fall for a base hit but he caught it while sliding on the wet grass at the same time.

Enjoy today's game!
