Nervous
So it all comes down to this. 162 games, and now the Twins have to play one more. One more game at the hostile U.S. Cellular Field. Yikes. I tell you all what, I have major butterflies. Last Tuesday (has it only been a week?) I mentioned I'd never been so nervous for a baseball game, and this is worse.
I said back in February that if we got an unexpected run at the playoffs this year that I'd wear my Mardi Gras beads. Well, I've got 'em on, the ones a member of a wedding party tossed my way in New Orleans when I was watching a wedding procession in Jackson Square. Maybe they'll throw a few extra vibes of good luck to the Twins.

Over at Nick's blog he brings up how eerily similar the Twins and the Sox records are this year. Road/home splits, their records against other Central division opponents, even their runs scored per game are nearly identical. He's got a great analysis. Really, the big differences are how many homers that other team hits (I will no longer be referring to them by name!) and the the fact the the Twins have stunk it up at that other ballpark this year. Given all that, maybe it's fitting that they have to play each other one more time this year.
There's much grumbling around the blogosphere that if only the Twins had managed to win one more game, this would all be a moot point. Well, the same could be said for that other team. They didn't win one extra game either. Besides, the word if is useless. If, if, if. Blah, blah, blah. I prefer to look at it this way. Think of all the games they barely hung on to win. Think of Mike Lamb's game winning-hit against the Red Sox. Think of Craig Monroe's big fat home run in Kansas City. Think of Denard's unbelievable catch in Seattle that robbed Adrian Beltre of a home run. Had the Twins lost even one of those games, this whole discussion would be a moo point. That's how I'm going to look at it.
No matter what happens, this has really been a phenomenal season.
Go Twins!!
