Back Home

Twins 3 White Sox 0

Ok, so far....it is only the 6th inning.  Hopefully they will hang on to win the game. It would be awesome to gain a whole game on first place Chicago.  Jason Kubel hit a home run. He just launched it into right field. It was bad ass.

The real story of the day is our younger sister Andrea. She came over to my house after work to have pizza and to watch TV. We watched American Idol and then switched it over to the Twins game. Andrea, as I'm sure you all remember is NOT a baseball fan. She has told me many times over the years that it is so boring. I don't understand but she's entitled to her opinion. She did have some intersting comments during the game tonight.

She watched about 45 minutes with me. It was pretty cool. She When Joey cme up to bat she said, "I've never seen Joe Mauer bat before." She thinks he is hot, so she was into it. He wound up being walked.

In between innings they showed Carlos Gomez in the dugout. She asked me who he was and she replied, "He's adorable!"  She said the same thing about Cuddy when she saw him as well.

When I saw that Nick Punto was playing I said, "Cool! My favorite guy is playing. Little Nicky Punto or LNP for short." She seemed a little perplexed and asked me why I called him that. I said that everyone calls him that because because he is not as tall as some of the other guys and because he is so darn cute.  She wondered if he would care if people call him that.  Probably not. He's accepted it as a term of endearment.

She didn't get as into it as I do but that's ok-it was enjoyable to watch with her.   Because she is a fan of Joey Mauer this is for her:

Current score: Twins 3  White Sox 1 Come on guys!  I know you can do it!!!!!! Boof pitched a great game. Get him the win.

Perplexing

Twins 0  Rangers 10

Did anyone else find this game just a bit confusing and a lot annoying? After Milton Bradley hit the three three homer off of Livian I didn't worry too much. A team that has 16 hits one night can't have their offense all but dry up all of 16 hours later, right?

Wrong.

I'll admit that once the score was 5-0 I lost interest. It was just a lackluster and annoyhing game to watch if you are a Twins fan.

Instead I watched American Pie 2 and went to the grocery store. I figured there was no need to rile myself up over it.  Our guys are off tomorrow and then they have a two game series with the White Sox. I love it when the White Sox come to the Dome because I get to see my ex-baseball boyfriend A.J. Pierzynski play. He was my favorite Twin until he got traded to the Giants in 2003, even though he had the rep for being a pain in the ass.

Have a good week!

Must Win Game

This game was not a must-win from the standpoint of gaining a game in the standings, or getting a playoff berth.  It was a must-win because NO WAY can Sidney Ponson, now pitching for the Texas Rangers, go down in the record books as the winning pitcher for this game against the Twins.  NO WAY!!  Not after the way he tortured us Twins fans last year, losing 6 precious games for us while standing on the mound wiping sweat off his brow, his ugly long hair hanging down nearly to the middle of his back, (ok-I exaggerate!) breathing heavily while the other teams are taking glee and delight in getting batting practice during a game.

The baseball fates intervened on the Twins behalf.  They said, "Huh...dang it, you're pitching pretty well here.  This cannot be.  We will screw with you in a different way.  Your fielders will make 13 errors in one inning.  We are all powerful and we have decreed that the Twins must win this game.  They cannot lose to  you, although they're looking pretty determined to do just that."

Also, yay!  Cuddy had his first homer of the year.  Maybe he can take some of the power hitting burden off Justin's shoulders.  Goodness knows Justin shouldn't have to provide all the offense every night.

Also, d'oh!  Scotty left the game with a pulled groin muscle.  Ouch!  I don't know how long it takes for that to heal, but I hope he won't be out for long.

At the end, Telly Hughes was interviewing Delmon Young and said something to the effect of, "So now that you've had a good night at the plate, do you think you'll be ready to hit for the rest of the year?"  That struck my husband as a totally dumb question, and then I suggested I could think of something better to ask than that.  He told me I'd be too star struck to ask good questions.  He might have a point there.  Still, those guys are all polite and I think they'd all answer my questions, no matter how dumb, without resorting to eye rolling or sarcasm.  Plus I'm cuter than any of the on air personalities the Twins employ now, so that might work in my favor.
-------
Mother Nature is bound and determined to make all of us who believe that global warming is reality seem like total morons.  I mean, come on!  35 degrees at the end of April?  Give me a break!  Still, it was a good day.  I got to visit with my in-laws and see my niece and nephew.  I went to the mall with Twins Kid and his buddy and bought myself a kewl new pair of shoes.

I love Converse tennis shoes, and now I have a black pair so my pink ones won't be lonely.

I also went to the little Chinese take out place a few miles away and got some delicious chicken mushroom chow mein.

I love that stuff, but nobody else at my house will touch it with a 10 foot pole.  :-(  Sometimes I just have to go ahead and buy it for myself.  It was delicious!

Yes, it was a good day.  The Twins won, I got to visit with people I like and don't see a lot, plus I got new shoes AND chow mein.  All that nearly makes up for the fact that it's April and it feels like flippin' February outside.

A Long Game...but with Great results!

Twins 12  Rangers 6

Good grief...this was a long game. I started watching at 7:03 and the last out was recorded at 10:33.  3 and a half hours! Wow. And because I had nothing else pressing to do tonight I watched the whole thing!

Ok, I have to get this off my chest. This is really mean but I'm going to say it anyway. I had forgotton just how fugly Sidney Ponson is.  He still isn't that great a pitcher. I'm glad he isn't our problem anymore.

Thanks to the Texas Rangers defense for sucking so bad tonight. Missed catches, balls off the end of gloves, crummy throws--we saw it all and made them pay for it.

I hope that Scotty Baker is ok. I was sorry to see him come out of the game so early due to his groin injury. He had the same problem that Nick Blackburn ran into last night--a long and frustrating 3rd inning.

Cuddy hit his first home run of the season. May it be the first of many!

Newbie Twin Brendan Harris was interviewed after the game by Telly Hughes and I have to say that he is a cutie. He had some great hits tonight and I can just tell that he is happy to be playing with Minnesota.

Update

Since last Tricia and I wrote the Twins lost the last game of the Oakland series and dropped the first game in 10 innings with the Texas Rangers. I was on the phone with her during the bottom of the 3rd inning talking about how awesome Justin's grand slam was. Bit by bit during that inning Texas tied that sucker up. Damn!  It happens, I guess. After that both teams went inning after inning without scoring a run. Fast forward to the bottom of the 10th:

Juan Rincon was pitching. I have noticed that he is normally lights out or he has all kinds of trouble. Once he had walked Jason Botts and there were runners on 1st and 2nd I knew that was going to be it. David Murphy got a hit to left field....game over. Yuck. It was just yucky.

This is what I know to be true:
**Justin's grand slam was still awesome
**I'm glad that Francisco Lariano is going back to the minors so that he can fine tune and improve his pitching. I'm not ready to give up on him and I'm glad that the Twins aren't either.
**Sidney Ponson is pitching for the Rangers tonight. He had an ERA of about 600 during the short time he pitched for the Twins. We have GOT to be able to muster some good hits tonight.
**Scotty Baker is pitching for the Twins. I don't see any reason why he won't be fantastic tonight!

Twins 5, Athletics 4

Well, I've been reading other blog entries about last night's game, and it seems like I won't have anything particularly original to say here, but I'll post an entry anyhow.  I must make my opinion heard too!

Geez...Oakland's uniforms are UGLY!  Those white shoes in particular...to me they looked more like ugly dress shoes to go with a tux than cleats.

What is up with their outfielders?  I know Go Go made an error in CF last night, but that can happen to anyone once in a while.  The Oakland outfielders, though seemed lost.  "Hey..let's let this lazy fly ball to left field drop in for a hit!"  "Ok, I don't feel like catching it, fine with me!"

Someone needs to tell Go Go not to swing at everything.  I would've known better than to swing at some of those pitches.  I do believe he swings because he just wants to hit the ball so much he can't stand it.  I hope someone tells him not to be so hacktastic tonight.  You know, tell him if he settles down he might get a pitch he can hit.  And thus ends my career as a hitting coach.

Why don't people in Oakland go to ball games?  How many people were in that stadium last night, 12 or 13?
Maybe it was just because of the rain.  Maybe people go across the Bay to see the Giants play instead.  I don't know...maybe I should just stop the speculation because it's lame & going nowhere.

I was glad to see Craig Monroe have such a good game last night.  I've liked him ever since Twins Kid and I got our picture taken with him at Twins Fest.  He was so nice to my kid.  Asked him his name, shook his hand, and it was so sincere, not like he was really thinking, "UGH!  I can't believe I'm sitting here getting my picture taken with this little brat!"

I think I have pretty much fully recovered from my bout with the flu.  Yuck.  I'll go to work tomorrow and if I don't have relapse there, I guess that means I'm cured!  It's nice to feel human again.

This entry from Alright Hamilton! is pretty dang funny.

I have a hankering to pull use my picture of a broom, so let's hope the Twins can sweep those boys with the ugly uniforms.  Hmm...maybe I shouldn't have wished that, because my baseball wishes seldom come true.  Oh well, too late now!

No Baseball Today

Our summer friends are off today. I wonder what they do on their off days. Do you suppose Justin stays home gets caught up on laundry? I wonder if Joey goes to Cub Foods to stock up on food. Maybe Go-Go stayed home to watch Judge Judy this afternoon. Perhaps Delmon took in a movie at the Mall of America. For all I know LNP took his cat Mittens^ to the vet.

I love baseball but I like to have a day off from it every once in awhile during the season. Since I'm a Twins addict it helps to have it taken away so I can have a normal night after work that does not revolve around me yelling at my TV. It'll wipe a girl out.

Thank  goodness it is back tomorrow. More than a day would be too much.

**Becca**

^I don't know if LNP has a cat and if he does I'm sure he wouldn't name it Mittens.

Two Out Of Three...Pretty Cool!

Twins 2  Indians 1  10 innings

Tricia has been under the weather. I asked her yesterday if she was sure that she was well enough to go to the Twins game. Her response was, "I was well enough to haul my booty into work on Friday, so I'm well enough to haul it to a baseball game today."  She has since been diagnosed with the flu, so for the next few days instead of Twins Sisters blog, it will be Twins Sister. I just talked to her a little bit ago. She sounds pretty pretty rotten. Get well soon!

I'll be honest, games like this kind of bore me. I like the games with lots of hits and runs where the lead changes by the inning. There were some great moments:
**Brendan Harris hit his first homer as a Twin.
**Go Go made a catch that I'm pretty sure saved thet game.
**LNP had two hits.  I won't write what I'm thinking now, because I don't want to jinx him.

Good ol' Justin. Bottom of the 10th with two outs and runners on 1st and 3rd. I fall into my daily habit of talking to the TV.  "Come on Justin, we don't even need a home run. Just a tiny hit past the infield to score Brendan from third. Just please don't strike out."

That's exactly how the game ended!

The Twins won 2 out of 3, thus taking the series from the Indians. Are our Cleveland woes over? For now they seem to be. We play them 15 more times, assuming I counted correctly.

Up next: Off day and then off to play Oakland. I don't like those west coast games because they don't start until 9:00 here.

Great sliding catch, Carlos!  That astroturf couldn't have felt good.

A Kick Ass Day!

Nick Blackburn, our new ace?

Twins 3 Indians 0

It was a big day for both of our side burned cuties yesterday. Nick Blackburn shut the door on the strong Cleveland hitters. He pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings with Dennys Reys getting the final out in the 8th and Super Joe Nathan pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 9th. Nicky B. got his very first major league win ever. Congrats to him!

Joey Mauer caught Delmon's bullet from left field and tagged Cleveland's would-have-been first run of the game. Denied!  The infield also turned four beautiful double plays. I just love seeing LNP playing short stop. LNP, Brendan, Mike Lamb and Justin were simply awesome yesterday.

Tricia and I were there, along with her fabulous sister in law watching it all happen, live and in person.  She's never been to a game with us before so I dialed down the crazy just a little bit.  It was probably the best game I've seen in person since Tricia and I were in Kansas City last September.

Justin hit a monster 2 run homer in the first inning. His former roommate, Joey Mauer was on 1st base. That  was followed later an RBI hit from Go-Go, scoring Mike Mike Lamb.

This game was just perfection. You can't hardly go wrong with great pitching, timely hitting and amazing defense.

Happy 25th Birthday, Joey Mauer!

Lame!

Twins 0  Indians 4

I don't have anything to say about this game other than the fact that it made me crabby.  Tomorrow is another day so perhaps they will turn it around.

I sure as heck hope so.
