Take Me Out to the Ballgame
I won't make any predictions about where the Twins will finish in the division. I'm a die hard fan and not in any position to be impartial. I don't know enough about each team to analyze them all position by position, and I don't want to anyway. I'll put it this way instead. This is like Christmas morning. (In more ways than one. This weather is disgusting for late March. But I digress.) The presents are sitting under the tree, all unopened. They're all wrapped up in such pretty, festive paper. So what will we get? Will this season be like a shiny diamond necklace? Perhaps an iPod? Or will there be nothing but a goofy sweater under the tree, the kind that most people wouldn't wear out in public on a bet?
It will be a mix. There will be games that will be like that itchy sweater. We'll watch and say, "Oh, for real? Man, I coulda caught that ball...I could run the bases better than that!" And there'll be other games that are more like that diamond necklace. The Twins will be down by 2 in the bottom of the 9th, there'll be 2 guys on, one of our guys will come to the plate and boom! that ball will be gone! All we can do is watch and hope for lots of games like the pretty, shiny necklace. The season will be fun, and we'll all enjoy it no matter what. The offseason is over!

I saw this video of Torii on the Star Tribune's web site. I've given some thought to the whole, "Boo Torii or not?" subject. All last season he talked about playing for other teams, about how much he liked New York, Chicago, wherever. So from the big picture level, he was kind of a stinker. But. One day I was waiting for one of Twins Kid's basketball games to start, and a bunch of kids had projects about their families on the walls. One I saw had a picture of a kid and his mom on the field of the Dome, posing with Torii after a game. He had a big smile on his face, and he was standing right next to the mom. He looked honestly happy to be there. Not like, "Ugh, really? I have to pose with this chick and her bratty kid?" So no, I'm not going to boo him. I just can't do that. I'll miss watching him play for the Twins. I wish him well playing for the Angels. (Except when he's playing our guys. Then I hope he strikes out and hits into lots of double plays.) Linda: I'll try and remember during the season to do some occasional updates on him for you. I know you'll miss him more than anybody!
You'd have to be a nutty Twins fan to find this entertaining, but I know most people reading this blog are nutty Twins fans, so here you go.
Here's a quote from Gardy I really like:
"We're going to be thinking about winning as many games as we can and irritating the living heck out of a lot of people who said we can't play," Gardenhire said. "Whether we can or not, we want to make it look like they have no clue what they're talking about. That's our goal."
Have a great day all, and enjoy the game tonight, whether from your seats at the Dome or from your living room. Win Twins!

Play ball!

Rookie of the Year is so funny--and I just love Angels In The Outfield. The whole story is just lovely and heartwarming.
I never thought it would happen, but I have an interesting anecdote regarding me, my hairdresser and the Yankees third baseman, A-Rod. Tricia thought this was funny and entertaining, and I guess it is a little funny.

This guy is a speedmeister! I'm really impressed with how fast this guy can round the bases. He hit a homer and a single today. But Denard Span had a couple of nice hits today and made a great catch. So while my pick would be Carlos, Denard would be ok, too. Both those guys seem like a good fit with the Twins.
