Fenway Follies

Twins 4, Red Sox 6

D'oh!  It looked like this one was all sewn up, but no!  We thought the Twins were going to walk away with a win at Fenway tonight, but J.D. Drew, the greedy S.O.B., hit that three run homer off our fine new pitcher, Nick Blackburn.  We're not even mad at him, 'cuz he's a newbie, he's learning, and he plays for the Twins, so he automatically gets the benefit of the doubt.  We really wish that Carlos Silva could've ended his season with a win instead of a no-decision.  Bummer.  We also wonder why he didn't come out to pitch the 7th inning. He was pitching a good game. He pitched himself into jams, but right back out. And where was Nicky? That really annoyed me.

Yay for Joey for hitting his 7th homerun of the year, and congratulations to Rondell White too.  Becca and I were bellyaching about him playing.  "Where's Kubel?" we said, and then 2 seconds later, BOOM! he launched a homerun way over the left field wall.  We felt a wee bit sheepish after that.

Sigh.  This is just kind of how this season has gone at times.  Seems like everything's going great, and then something annoyingly craptacular like this happens. Phooey!

Greedy jerks, greedy fartknockers, greedy overpaid egomaniacs.  The Sox DID NOT need to win this game.  What might this get them?  Home field advantage?  Big whoop.

We love the Twins no matter what.  We wish were they would've had a better year.  No matter how they're playing though,  rooting for them is fun, and always interesting.  Man!  What are we going to do with our time after work now??  Damned if we know.

Only 2 Games Left

Twins 2  Red Sox 5

Justin hits his 31st homer of the year!  That was awesome.  Keep that hitting mojo, Justin!  We want to see lots more of it next year.

The Twins baseball season will be over in less than 48 hours but you wouldn't guess it by how hard they have been playing.  It would be so easy for them to say, "Forget it! We aren't going to the playoffs anyway so who gives a care?" But they aren't and I appreciate it.

I want to say that I that I was very excited when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. Boston baseball fans wanted it so much and I'm glad they got it.

That being said, now I'm as sick of seeing the Red Sox in the playoffs as I am the Yankees.  I also worry that Boston fans are turning into a bunch of brats like the Yankees fans.  Do they expect it so much that they think they are the only ones who deserve it? Though it probably won't happen, I would love to see Tampa Bay win at least the Wild Card next year.

I'm a humble Twins fan.  I love seeing my guys play in the post season but I'm not spoiled because it doesn't happen every single year and when it does happen it is harder for them to come by.

Big Win In Boston

Twins 5   Red Sox 4

Holy crap!  That was close.  That was one of the most nerve wracking 9th innings I've seen all year and I loved it!

Way to get those two stikeouts, Joe Nathan!  All you guys played a great game.  Time to shower up and go have lots of yummy cocktails!   **Becca**

Short But Dreadful

Twins 4  Tigers 9

Nick Blackburn had a horrible time pitching in the 4th inning.  I'm glad it started raining again because the plug on that game needed to be pulled in a big bad way. Kind of sad--this will be the first time since Gardy had been manager of the Twins that they won't finish with a winning record. They best they do now is finish at .500, and that is only if they sweep the Red Sox at Fenway. Possible, but unlikely.

There's always 2008!!!  2008 will be awesome.

Rain Rain Go Away

Rain Delay!!!!!!!

Twins 4  Tigers 3  (After 3 innings)

Rondell White hit a 3 run double in the first to help give the Twins an early 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the 2nd Johan issued 3 walks allowing the Tigers to get 3 of the runs back.  Should the game resume play, Nick Blackburn will be pitching for the Twins.

I hope that Joey Mauer is able to get past his myriad of health problems and have a great 2008. He's young and I'm sure has top notch doctors so I'm sure he'll be fine. Still, this had to have been a frustrating year for him.

I've given up on the game for tonight.  It looks doubtful that it will start anytime soon.  Hopefully this crappy weather won't follow the Twins to Boston.

Losing End of a Shutout

Tigers 8, Twins 0

Aw...this wasn't nearly as much fun as last night's game.

So much for sweeping the Tigers at season's end.

How many double plays did the Twins hit into?  About 852, I think.

Why did Matty Garza lose his mojo after he hit Placido Polanco with a pitch?  Dude, suck it up and keep pitching.  Get some strikeouts and fly ball outs.

I guess it doesn't really matter than the score was 8-0 instead of 1-0.  One run losses are extra frustrating for me.  I keep thinking, "Come on, come on.  You can get two lousy runs and win this thing."  I wonder if it matters to the players if they lose 1-0 or 8-0?

I'm not holding my breath or making any bold predictions here.  However, there's still a chance that the Twins can win tomorrow night, and therefore win the series.  Wouldn't that be nice?

Winning End of a Shutout

Twins 2, Tigers 0

It's nice to be on the winning end of a shutout.

It's great that Carlos Silva pitched such a good game.  I'm glad that Joe Nathan didn't blow it.  I know he's one of the top closers in the game, but sometimes he makes me so, so nervous.

It's kewl that Nicky hit a two-out single that got the Twins on the board.

It's kewl that Kubel hit an insurance run in the ninth.

Matthew LeCroy caught a good game.  I just realized that now there are as many Matts on the team as there are Jasons.  Random, but true.

Go out and win again tomorrow, guys.  Why not?  Even without a chance to go to the playoffs, it's still tons o' fun to win.

Last Home Game of 2007

Twins 7   White Sox 1

I went to the game today because I knew that if Torii does in fact leave the Twins I would regret not being there to see him in center field one last time.   I always want the Twins to win, but today it was all about Torii.

In the top of the 9th inning Torii was the last player to take the field and after a minute or so Jason Tyner came out to take over  so that he could get the farewell that he derserves and the one that we in attendance wanted to give him. He jogged off the field with his hat in the air to a big standing ovation. After greeting his teammates in the dugout he came out to acknowledge the crowd one last time.  This whole scene brought me to tears.

I hope that baseball fans in Twins Territory watched today, whether it was in person at the Dome or on TV.

Twins 7, White Sox 1

This was a good game for the Twins.  They won their last home game.  Their record at the Dome, at least, is over the .500 mark.  Kevin Slowey pitched a phenomenal game, with 9 strikeouts.  Cuddy drove in four runs.  And of course, congratulations to Garrett Jones for his first major league homerun.

I am so mad at Ozzie Guillen.  He's such a wanker.  He had his pitcher intentionally walk Torii in the 7th inning.  He knew full well it might be Torii's last at-bat as a Twin in the Dome.  The cameramen showed him in the Bitch Sox dugout laughing his head off.  I used to think his antics were kind of funny, but not anymore.

Gardy made up for Ozzie's wankerish-ness.  The top of the 9th inning, he pulled Torii off the field and had Jason Tyner go out to center.  Torii got to walk off the field slowly and tip his hat to the crowd.  He got a standing ovation.  I felt a bit teary-eyed watching him walk off the field and then greeting all his teammates in the dugout.  Oh, I hope he and the Twins find some common ground, and that he comes back next year.

While Becca and I will wish Torii the best wherever he goes, our fervent hope is that he's starting in centerfield opening day next year wearing number 48.

Maladroit Pitching

Twins 3  White Sox 8

The best thing I can say about this game is that at least it was not a shutout.  No matter who pitched today the White Sox batters had our number. Once Scott Baker was out of the game after the 2nd inning I figured that was the beginning of what would be a very long and grueling game.  I still sat and watched it while I balanced my checkbook and bummed around the apartment in hopes the Twins would have a monster comeback.

Jason Kubel is the guy for left field in 2008.  He is a power hitter and I think he will just get better and better.  I know his knees were a problem for the last couple of seasons but he seems to be 100% or at least close to it.  His home run today was about the only bright spot for the Twins today.

Darin Erstad from the White Sox is a dink.  He was being interviewed by Marney after the game and she asked him if it was hard to be ready for an early day game following a night game. His response was, "It doesn't matter when you play in the Metrodome because you can't tell what time of day it is anyway."  I could have let it go if he had been kidding but he did not say it in a kidding way at all.  He has no business having a superiority complex when he is playing for a team that in will probably be in last place at season's end.

Dink!

The Twins last home game of the whole year is tomorrow. That makes me sad. I want to go but I don't know if I will yet. I should because it will probably be the last time I ever get to see Torii playing in a Twins uniform.

It'll be a drag to see him go.
